Talk about Google

The number one search engine and definitely my favorite. Eventhough others have been around for a long time, Google seems to be leaps and bounds above the others in many areas. In 2007, Google is just going to get a whole lot stronger with more phone/local integration and more office/corporate related tools and applications.

Because I work for an SEO company in Pittsburgh, I tend to do quite a lot of local searches in and around the Pittsburgh metro area. At work we’ve been receiving some phone calls from people who think we’re Google - the latest was an event planner wanting to check up on conference plans. I [...]

It’s so frustrating that you can’t usually find which forum thread is linking to your website, because under the referring site report, cross segment performance, content report, it truncates the URL at the end of the filename, so you end up with items like:
/forums/showthread.php
/forums/viewtopic.php
etc.
There are two options, the first is a hack which uses filters [...]

Matt just posted that the latest Google PageRank update is now underway as well as updates for the link: and site: commands. PR values are fluctuating wildly during this time, but as with previous updates, should settle down in the next 48hrs.
He also reiterated about how Google is treating certain types of links and that [...]

I’ve been analyzing some of the results in Google Maps and by using Google Local Business Center (GLBC) I’ve found that a business can rank:
1) first, infact better than that, it can have an authoritative listing without even having a website. Not all businesses have a website, but I have to question the priority of [...]

Google OS blogged about a rumored project Google Phone. I was just reading some of Mike Blumenthal’s research about Google local and a thought popped into my head. If the new device has GPS capability, then Google would know your location, so if you searched for “pizza”, perhaps it would use your immediate location for [...]

Google posted an item entitled building link-based popularity, which I found rather interesting for a few reasons. Here’s a key snippet:
“We’ve always taken a clear stance with respect to manipulating the PageRank algorithm in our Quality Guidelines. Despite these policies, the strategy of participating in link schemes might have previously paid off. But more recently, [...]

I imported my bookmarks from my work PC and well, nothing really exciting happened. I was given the same options to edit labels and shuffle my sites around. The only downside I saw was that I now have so many labels, some overlapping that I need to spend about an hour doing a reorg. With [...]

So for some reason, against my usual software policy, I decided to download and install the new Google Toolbar 3 beta. I had multiple Firefox 2.x windows open at the time and thought I’d take advantage of the session restore feature. It downloaded ok, installed and prompted me to restart firefox. When it restarted, it [...]

Matt wrote an amusing article debunking the theory that Google is in bed with the CIA. In this fictitious dialog between a Google PR person and a Google founder, why would the founder admit anything to a lowly PR person. Wouldn’t they be one of the last people you’d want to spill the beans to? [...]
