Usually those pages don’t really rank for any money terms. But they may be doing that to set the theme for outbound links from those pages. Nice guide btw.

I have found that lots of large sites such as Newegg.com will use the main keywords of the homepage on other pages such as the contact us, privacy policy pages, etc… Anything that is not a real product/category. Something like this:
